St George's CofE Primary

Headteacher's Welcome

We are proud of our reputation for providing a good quality education within a caring Christian environment.  Our school offers a wide range of experiences for all children so that everyone can have success and enjoy coming to school.  We aim to encourage a love of learning from an early age, delivering an exciting curriculum.  Our children work within high behavioural expectations, as we believe that is an essential foundation for effective learning. All aspects of school life are underpinned by a set of Christian values and a set of Learner Qualities, which are explicitly taught.  We teach children to value themselves, others, their community and the environment, thinking ahead to our children’s place in the communities of the future.

When visitors walk around the school they comment on happy children engaged in their learning in a calm, fun environment. We take great pride in the fact that we have a happy and inclusive school in which children’s voices are heard, in an atmosphere that encourages respect for everyone as well as respect for the environment.

Every decision within the school is made with due consideration given to what is in the best interests of the children. In this way, children lie at the heart of everything we do. We look forward to working with you and your child so that St George’s can continue to be the popular and very special place that it is today. Parents are welcomed as partners in their child’s education as we believe that our children learn best when members of staff and parents work in partnership and so we encourage and value your involvement with your child’s education.

Our Christian Vision

‘Let your light shine’ -Matthew 5:16

To provide our children with a stimulating learning environment within a Christian ethos, that enables them to develop socially, spiritually and academically to their highest potential and to gain a life-long love of learning.

Our Curriculum

We believe that if children are engaged in their learning and have fun in the process; they will achieve and learn to their full potential. We want every adult and child to go home excited and buzzing about their day, and we believe that our curriculum is the perfect vehicle to provide this.

The children follow a broad and balanced curriculum in accordance with the New National Curriculum (2014). We have completely revamped the curriculum we teach, to use the Edison Learning Connected Curriculum, covering themes that change across the school term by term. Our integrated units allow us to deliver the curriculum in a meaningful, exciting and motivational way.

English, Mathematics and Science receive the majority of the teaching time and R.E. PE, History, Geography, Art, Design & Technology, Computing and Music make up the rest of the timetable. English and Maths are taught as discrete subjects but there are opportunities for the skills from these subjects to be applied in aspects of each of the learning units. In addition to the above the school curriculum also addresses cross-curricular areas, such as Personal and Social Education, and Multi-cultural Education.

Learner Qualities:

At St George’s school, we have developed our own Learner Qualities and these are at the forefront of our curriculum. We believe the skills, values and attitudes that our Learner Qualities promote will develop in our pupils the capacity to be lifelong learners and make positive contributions to their communities now and in the future.
We have identified key qualities that we want our pupils to develop and help them to understand and recognise what these qualities are and how to develop them in themselves. These are:

  • Self-awareness
  • Reflection
  • Ability to use feedback
  • Curiosity
  • Growth mindset
  • Persistence
  • connection
