Born In Southampton. Educated at Taunton’s school and St Catharine’s College, Cambridge, graduating with a double first in Economics. Married to Ann with one grown up daughter.
Started professional life as a stockbroker with Simon& Coates, becoming a partner before joining Royal Dutch Shell as their Chief economist in their Group Planning department. After a short time in the Downstream department, went back to the City on the investment management side, first with Lazard, responsible for institutional clients and then UBS, as chief investment officer of the international private banking business, based in the UK.
Since 2002, followed a portfolio career with a variety of investment – related appointments, acting as a trustee of corporate pension schemes, acting as independent adviser to a large local authority scheme, sitting on investment committtees with an insurance company and chairing an investment trust, a FTSE 250 company.
In the voluntary sector: for three years, a director of Richmond Housing Partnership, the local social housing company; for twelve years a governor of Christ’s school and chair of finance; and for seven years, chair of the Richmond Society, the local amenity society. Most recently, in the diocese, appointed to the board of the Southwark Multi-Academy Trust and chair of finance. And now Chair of the Board of Finance, the charity which has oversight of the diocese.
